TODAY'S WOKING/WEST BYFLEET AND AROUND
Weybridge
One of the UK's wealthiest towns and includes the famed St George's Hills - where residents include Sir Cliff Richard as well as many other show-business personalities and some of Britain's leading industrialists. The town is famous for its links with motor racing - parts of the old Brooklands (1907-1939) banked racetrack are still visible even though the area has recently been transformed into a shoppers' paradise - a retail park that includes a huge Marks and Spencer and a Tesco's. Weybridge also has a long association with aircraft building - Sir Barnes Wallis - designer of the Wellington Bomber, the world's first swing-wing aircraft and, of course, the famed Bouncing Bomb, worked here for a number of years with British Aircraft Corporation.
