TODAY'S WOKING/WEST BYFLEET AND AROUND
Goldsworth Park
When it was built Goldsworth Park was reputed to have been one of the biggest housing developments in Europe with over 4,000 homes. It is built on former nursery land and particular efforts were made to retain as much of the greenery as possible and to create attractive landscaping. Building began in the early 1970's and the estate is now complete with most of the homes occupying small cul-de-sacs so that when at home there is virtually no impression of the scale of the development. Ideal Homes undertook most of the development but other homes were built by Charles Church and by Willetts. Properties here range from studio apartments to 4/5 bedroom executive detached houses. Goldsworth Park has its own shopping centre (with a Waitrose Supermarket), health centre and interdenominational church. There is also a 12-acre lake and a massive recreation ground with all-weather hockey pitch. First and middle schools are provided within the estate, with Woking High School (Horsell) being the main secondary school for this district.
