FOCUS ON WOKING TOWN CENTRE
The central focus for the town’s shopping centre is the Peacocks shopping and cultural complex. This £12,000,000 development first opened its doors in 1992 and as well as housing a first class 1,300-seat air-conditioned theatre New Victoria Theatre (01483 761144) and multiplex cinema, it features one of the finest selections of shops in Surrey. Shops include an Allders department store, Marks and Spencers, Toys ‘R’ Us.
Around the Peacocks there are two further under-cover malls as well as Commercial Way – which has a BHS and a number of other large shops. Commercial Way is also the town’s centre for residential property as this is where many of the estate agencies may be found. The Chertsey Road, Chobham Road and High Street form the older part of the modern town centre and feature many restaurants, speciality shops and the area’s multi-million pound themed entertainment complex – The Big Apple. Here there are bowling alleys, American Pool tables; virtual reality games machines, a laser battle zone and nightclub.
Next to this is the Metro Hotel and The H.G. Wells Suite - A state-of-the-art conference facility which can cater for up to 800 people, holding major events ranging from exhibitions, dance and drama productions and dinner dances. Telephone: 01483 712710.
